Keeping Up With Your Child's Immunizations Schedule

It’s important that parents keep up to date on when their children need to get vaccinated.

We’ve been hearing a lot of discussions over the past year about the importance of vaccines. It’s important that children are getting regular immunizations from our Leesville and Many, LA, board-certified pediatrician Dr. Robert Crowe to bolster their immune systems and to keep them healthy all year long. Plus, most schools require that your child get certain vaccines before they can come to school.

Here are the immunizations your child will need to get from our Leesville and Many, LA, pediatrician from birth until 18 years old,

Birth Through 4 Years Old

  • Hepatitis A (given between 12-23 months old; there are 6 months between the first and second dose)
  • Hepatitis B (the first dose is given about 24 hours after your baby is born; the second dose is given between 1-2 months old; third and final dose is given between 6-15 months old)
  • Diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis, or DTaP (given at 2, 4, and 6 months; final dose is given between 15-18 months old)
  • influenza type B (Hib) (given at 2, 4, and 6 months; final dose is given between 12-15 months old)
  • Polio (1st dose is given at 2 months; 2nd dose at 4 months; 3rd dose between 6-18 months)
  • Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (given at 2, 4, and 6 months, and between 12-15 months old)
  • Measles, mumps, and rubella, or MMR (1st dose given between 12-15 months)
  • Varicella (chickenpox vaccine) (1st dose is given between 12-15 months)
  • Rotalvirus (given at 2, 4, and 6 months or 2 and 4 months)

Between 5-6 Years Old

Before your child goes into kindergarten they will need to show proof that they’ve gotten immunizations against,

  • Hepatitis B
  • DTaP (5th and final dose is given between 4-6 years old)
  • Polio (4th and final dose is given between 4-6 years old)
  • MMR (2nd dose given between 4-6 years old)
  • Varicella (2nd dose given between 4-6 years old)

Over Age 6 Years Old

  • Meningococcal (given between 11-12 years old)
  • Polio (4th dose is given around 6 years old)

We recommend your child get an annual flu shot starting at 6 months old.
